Cardboard Men

We pass them on the streets
Every single day of our lives
We can’t see inside of them
See the shreds of broken pride

Cardboard signs saying “help me”
And most of us just walk on by
But what so many never see
Are the hidden cardboard signs

Cardboard men are all around us
Men with broken dreams and pride
Not all of them live on the streets
Some are right there by our side
Crying ‘help me’, I’m dying inside

Some men stand on the corner
And some just run the rat race
Cardboard men are everywhere
Just look behind the smiling face

If you see a man’s hollow smile
That doesn’t quite reach his eyes
Look for the hidden “help me” sign
But please don’t just walk on by

Cardboard men are all around us
Men with broken dreams and pride
Not all of them live on the streets
Some are right there by our side
Crying ‘help me’, I’m dying inside
